Stay Safe On The Roads This Holiday Season
How many times during the holiday season do you find yourself in a daze…? The holidays have a way of doing that to the best of us. With so much on our collective plates to get done over the holidays, it’s no wonder we remember anything at all from the middle of November through January. But there is one particular bit of time that we need to stay focused during the holidays and that is when we are driving our vehicles.
The roads can be treacherous out there during this time of year and we aren’t only talking about the road conditions after a big storm. Drivers tend to be much more distracted during this time of year because they are trying to get to more places than ever. When you decide to get on the road yourself, don’t be one of those distracted drivers. Pay attention to where you are going and how you will get there.
Remember to always keep a safe distance between you and the vehicles in front of you. A car length for every 10 miles per hour you are driving should be sufficient. That means if you are driving at 65 miles per hour, there should be at least 6.5 car lengths in front of you. Simple physics prove that even if you slam on your brakes, your car will slide. You don’t want your car to slide directly into the car in front of you.
Also, be wary of flying debris on the roads. If your windshield is struck with a rock or other hard substance which results in a crack, have it fixed as quickly as you can. Call us to find out what type of coverage you will have with your car insurance carrier. Some carriers will pay for the repair with no deductible owed by you. Stay safe out there and in the immortal words of Jim Morrison, “Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel.”
